Martial Arts

Learn the Chinese art of self-defense through strikes, punches and kicks. Techniques emphasize physical discipline, respect for the body and mental focus. Chinese Painting

Learn the basics of one of the oldest artistic traditions in the world, learning the craft of Chinese ink painting. Time: Wednesday, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Location: Confucius Institute – 101 Lucille Fine Arts Library Cost: UK Students: Free Faculty and Staff, Senior Citizens: $120 Community: $240

Tai Chi

Students will improve physical coordination and learn techniques to allow the body to fight against disease and promote a healthy lifestyle. Guzheng

Learn the basic knowledge and skills to play Guzheng, or Chinese zither, one of the oldest musical instruments in China. Erhu

Erhu, known as Chinese violin or two-string fiddle, is one of the most popular solo instrument in Huqin family. The sound of erhu is elegant and expressive, and it can be played in many different music styles. Students will learn the basic knowledge and skills of erhu music, and will be able to perform several erhu songs. Chinese Folk Dance

Learn the basic knowledge and skills of Chinese folk dance for beginners. Folk dance in China is a highly varied art form, consisting of many modern and traditional dance genres. China has 56 ethnic minorities, each of which has a culture that is characterized by, among other features, a set of unique folk dances. Each ethnic group's folk dances reflect the peculiarities of religious, cultural and historical narrative, their choreography and their colorful costumes-naturally reflect this ethnic narrative.
