Andrea Gils, a native of Uruguay, is the marketing and communications manager at the University of Kentucky International Center, where she supports the University of Kentucky’s strategic initiatives for internationalization; and the International Center’s units including Recruitment, International Student & Scholar Services, Partnerships & Research, Education Abroad & Exchanges, Confucius Institute, Office of China Initiatives, Global Health Initiatives and International Health, Safety & Security.
Her work at UK spans various specialties including strategic planning, research and analytics, multicultural and international marketing communications, branding, issues and crisis communications, creative, digital and social strategy and media relations.
Her past client portfolio includes Fortune 100 companies such as Wells Fargo and Walmart, as well as a diverse mix of PR sectors including b2c, food and beverage, non-profit, plastics and rubber, financial and health care.
She currently serves on the PRSA National Diversity & Inclusion National Executive Committee and is a monthly contributor to PRSA's Strategies & Tactics publication, sharing insights on new professionals and millennials/gen Z on a wide variety of topics including digital, leadership and new tech. She's a member of the PRSA Thoroughbred Chapter and NAFSA: Association for International Educators, and serves on the Lexington Mayor's International Advisory Council's Communications sub-committee.
Gils earned her bachelor of science in public relations and bachelor of arts in journalism from Southeast Missouri State University, and her CertTESOL degree from Trinity College London.
