Continuing its dedication to further broadening multicultural offerings not only on the University of Kentucky’s campus, but also beyond, the University of Kentucky Confucius Institute (UKCI) will host a series of professional development seminars for K-12 teachers throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky beginning in December.
The free four-part series integrates Chinese cultural studies into a variety of disciplines, helping teachers promote diversity and internationalization while simultaneously instructing students further in their area of expertise. The program benefits K-12 teachers, as they can earn six professional development hours at each session, in addition to providing free resources and materials to use in their classes pertaining to the content covered. Lunch is provided for all attendees. Teachers who drive in excess of three hours to the sessions are offered a one-night hotel accommodation as well as reimbursement for their gas mileage. Teachers who participate in three or more of the professional development sessions also receive priority for the Kentucky Educators’ China Field Study program.
This year’s professional development sessions will cover Contemporary Chinese Culture and Society, Chinese Music, Chinese Art, Chinese Religions and Philosophy. The UKCI will offer four dates for the 2018-2019 professional development series, each running from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.:
- December 1, 2018
- January 19, 2019
- February 16, 2019
- March 16, 2019
The December 1 session’s theme is set to be Chinese Music, while the other three sessions will be announced in the near future. All professional development sessions will be hosted on the University of Kentucky’s campus.
