Shoulder to Shoulder Global, a Global Health Initiative at the University of Kentucky, raised $16,136 in the Good Giving Challenge, a fundraising campaign for non-profits hosted by Blue Grass Community Foundation. The funds raised from the challenge, which took place from Nov. 28, 2017 and ran through Dec. 31, 2017, will be used to provide multiple health services to approximately 11,000 patients in Santo Domingo, Ecuador.
“The donations from the Good Giving fundraising campaign [will] provide health and education to a resource poor community while giving Kentucky students a unique, transformative educational experience,” said Program Coordinator Craig Boire.
Shoulder to Shoulder Global placed first in the healthcare category for the challenge and 23rd overall out of 120 different non-profits. In the five weeks the challenge was active, Shoulder to Shoulder was able to receive donations from 45 unique donors as well as a match of $6,000 from Drs. Stephanie Ekens, Shannon Ekens and Tom Young.
“A truly genuine thank you to each of the 45 unique donors for your support during Shoulder to Shoulder Global’s largest fundraiser of the year,” Borie said. “Much gratitude to Stephanie Ekens, Shannon Sanders and Tom Young for the more than $6,000 in matching gifts. Our program wouldn’t be able to serve those in need without all of them.”
