Lexington, Kentucky, known as the horse capital of the world, this year celebrated the Year of the horse. The Confucius Institute at the University of Kentucky brought several cultural activities to the local community and schools to mark this occasion. Starting from Jan 25th, these engaging activities have been well-received by students, teachers, and community members alike.
The relationship between two of the world's largest powers, the U.S. and China, continues to expand and become increasingly multifaceted. The University of Kentucky's Confucius Institute, UK's gateway to China, presented a talk by David Adams, a former administrator of the Fulbright Scholar Program, on the importance of the countries' partnerships in education.
Several scholarships, fellowships and grant opportunities to study and teach in China have been made available to University of Kentucky students and faculty through the UK Confucius Institute and partner universities in China.

Last weekend, the University of Kentucky Confucius Institute (UKCI) hosted a Chinese Language Contest for Lexington area K-12 students. Organized by the UKCI and participating school districts, students gathered at the University of Kentucky to demonstrate their linguistic and cultural knowledge. Students competed in recitation, brush and pen calligraphy, painting and drawing, and Chinese composition. This event showcases the students’ achievements in learning Chinese language and culture.

UK’s volleyball team traveled to China for 14 days to participate in education, cultural exchange, and the CCLSKI Cup International Women’s Volleyball tournament. The team learned about Chinese culture while attending classes and training at Shanghai University.

Recently the college of Fine Arts welcomed a group of students and faculty from Shanghai University interested in learning about art and design through the Confucius Institute. This annual exchange program has been in place since 2011 and presents SHU students and faculty with a valuable opportunity to experience both UK and American culture.
