Course Options

Chinese 1A

Develop your ability to distinguish Chinese language by ear, and learn how to write and pronounce individual syllables in the phonetic system of Mandarin Chinese. Students will learn how to use basic Chinese vocabulary and form sentences.  

Pre-requisites: None 

Time: Monday and Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. 

Location: White Hall Classroom Building, Room 233

Chinese 1B

Focus on learning to accurately pronounce Chinese and expand vocabulary skills.  Students will use basic vocabulary to form sentences, learn more Chinese characters and study the order of strokes and the radical.  

Pre-requisites: Completion of one semester of language studies and mastered 100 Chinese characters.  

Time: Monday and Wednesday, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

Chinese 2A

Students will practice pronunciation and vocabulary, while learning to read and write passages. Students will begin to use basic Chinese grammar to communicate with each other, and prepare for real-life Chinese experiences.  

Pre-requisite: Completion of two semesters of language studies and mastery of 150 Chinese characters.

Chinese 2B

Students can enroll in this course to continue developing pronunciation and vocabulary, while focusing on advancing reading and writing skills. 

 

Pre-requisite: Completion of three semesters of language studies and mastery of 200 Chinese characters.

Chinese 3A

Students can enroll in this course to advance fluency in the language and improve their expressive capability. Students will have the opportunity to communicate with native Chinese speakers in preparation for real-life experiences in China.  

 

Pre-requisites: Completion of four semesters of language studies and mastery of 300 Chinese characters.

Chinese 3B

Designed to improve students’ expressive capability, students will develop a deeper understanding of the language and culture, and continue to communicate with native Chinese speakers.  

Pre-requisites: Completion of five semesters of language studies mastery of 400 Chinese characters.

Business Chinese

Improve basic Chinese language and learn professional skills to accomplish business purposes in Chinese. Students will focus on daily communication in a business setting.

HSK Tutor Course

The intensive practice course is designed for HSK candidates, aimed to help them to achieve higher scores on HSK, which comprises of Elementary Level (Level 1-2) and Intermediate Level (Level 3-4). 6 class sessions, with 1 session/week, 6 weeks before HSK Exam.

Chinese Folk Dance

Learn the basic knowledge and skills of Chinese folk dance for beginners. Folk dance in China is a highly varied art form, consisting of many modern and traditional dance genres. Chine has 56 ethnic minorities, each of which has a culture that is characterized by, among other features, a set of unique folk dances. Each ethnic group's folk dances reflect the peculiarities of religious, cultural and historical narrative, their choreography and their colorful costumes naturally reflect this ethnic narrative.
