2020 Faculty/Staff Domestic Travel Grant

Funded through the UK Confucius Institute (UKCI), this grant provides UK faculty and staff with financial support toward domestic travel for China-related conferences, research, and course field-trips. The travel dates must occur between March 1, 2020 and November 30, 2020.

Grant Focus Area

Domestic Travel: $1,000 (limit per grant) towards supporting UK faculty and staff to travel within the continental United States for China-related conferences (must be speakers), research, and course field-trips.

Note: Faculty/staff can only be awarded one category of award each academic year.

 

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be full-time faculty/staff.
  • Grants cannot be deferred, and recipients may only hold one active UKCI grant at a time. Funds must be used in accordance with standard University of Kentucky funding policies.

Submission Requirements

Faculty and staff seeking grant funding will be required to complete an application form. Click here to apply. The following are required:

  1. Curriculum Vitae
  2. Proposal Narrative: Proposals should be no more than 2 pages, single-spaced, 12 pt. font, and should include:
    1. An abstract of the proposed project (50-100 words)
    2. A description of the research/conference/fieldtrip/curriculum development and a timeline of activity.
    3. If funding sought is for research:
      1. A description of the project and the central research question(s).
      2. A brief summary of the relevant literature and the relationship of the proposed research to that literature.
      3. A brief summary of the conceptual framework, research methods, data collection instruments, and modes of analysis that the project will employ.
      4. A brief description of research activity to be supported by the grant.
    4. ALL PROPOSALS should include information on the knowledge or improvement that is expected to result from the proposed research/conference/fieldtrip/ development.
  3. Official Invitation (e.g. conference, if any)
  4. Administrative Recommendation: Proposals must be supported by a letter from the department head or the dean explaining how the proposed activity contributes to the development of the applicant’s research or teaching and to China-related knowledge.
  5. Administrative Contact: Name and E-mail of your departmental financial manager.  
  6. Proposed Budget: Clearly propose how funds will be used. Proposed budget should not exceed $1,000.00.
  7. Supplementary: Any additional information relevant to the proposed research/ conference/fieldtrip/curricular development. Please include the established dates of the project if known.

Evaluation Criteria

The UKCI Steering Committee’s Grant Sub-Committee will evaluate all proposals and make the final decisions regarding the awards. The criteria used in evaluating proposals include:

Likelihood that answers to research questions, issues investigated at conferences, topics explored on field trips, or subject matters of revised courses or programs of study will advance understanding about China or China-related subjects.
