This series is designed to provide support for UK faculty to bring scholars from Northern America to UK campus to address issues of relevance to research on China.
The UK Confucius Institute Covers:
- Travel up to $800
- Lodging (up to 2 nights standard hotel accommodation, not exceeding $120.00 per night)
- Two Meals for the speaker. Sponsoring faculty is responsible for collecting itemized receipts (alcohol should be on a separate receipt) from the speaker and submit to UKCI for reimbursement. The two meals cover the speaker and up to 2 UK faculty accompanying the speaker.
- Speaker’s fee up to $600 (The host faculty is expected to cover all costs not enumerated here, from other units on campus.)
Funds must be used in accordance with standard University of Kentucky funding policies.
Faculty seeking to nominate a speaker must complete an application form. Click here to apply.
The applications will be reviewed and voted by the UKCI Steering Committee which consists of faculty from across campus.
UKCI will notify the successful faculty as quickly as possible following selection. Hosting faculty should then proceed with the invitation. Please note, however, that funding is contingent upon Hanban final approval of the UKCI budget. This program has been funded for the last 8 years.
The hosting faculty (and his/her Department) is responsible for taking care of all the logistic details. Responsibilities include making reservations of the speaker’s flight and hotel, meal arrangements, space booking, airport pick up and send off, and advertisement. The hosting faculty should also collect the receipts from the speaker and submit all the receipts to UKCI within 10 days of the lecture (please note that meal receipts should be itemized, and alcohol receipts should be separate from the meal receipt). In the advertisement, it must mention: “UK Confucius Institute Distinguished Speaker Series” on the top of the flyer.
