2020 Faculty Teach in China Program

In order to strengthen collaborative teaching and research between the University of Kentucky and Chinese Universities, the UK Office of China Initiatives and the UK Confucius Institute have initiated the UK Faculty Teach in China program at numerous universities in China. Each summer for 2-4 weeks, UK faculty teach a wide array of courses at these universities while also experiencing the local culture and lifestyle. International round-trip airfare, accommodations, and a stipend are provided to faculty for the courses they teach.

For 2020, there are five participating campuses for the UK Faculty Teach in China Program:

"In many ways, teaching in China is like teaching in the US. Chinese students wrestle with many of the same issues that American students do: grades, job prospects, romantic relationships, family troubles. One big difference is the reverence that most Chinese students have for teachers. A teacher’s word is gold in China.

Our hosts at Jilin University were very hospitable. They arranged outings for us, like a visit to a nearby lake for the boat races on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival. Each of us was assigned a living assistant whose job it was to help us navigate everyday life, such as ordering food at the cafeteria or finding out where to get a massage or do laundry. Everyone wanted our visit to be enjoyable, and it was."
