Faculty-Directed

Explore ecological and evolutionary concepts both on campus at the University and Kentucky and in the forests and islands of Ecuadors. Students will receive 4 credit hours completing BIO 580: Evolutionary Ecology of the Galapagos Archipelago. See first hand how geology shapes evolution while hiking, exploring volcanos, and observing island culture in the Galapagos!

Students will enroll in NRE 390 Advanced Scuba Certification and Coral Reef Ecology during the fall semester and travel to Cozumel, Mexico from December 31 - January 8. Students will undertake between 18-21 scuba dives and earn numerous diving certifications on this program in the surrounding reefs, while learning about ecotourism, reef conservation, and other topics such as fish identification. An Open Water Diving Certification through PADI, NAUI, SSI, or similar training organization at the time of enrollment (verified by consent of instructors), is required to participate.

Studying abroad with DIS allows you to pursue a dream summer. Courses with field components and study tours are designed to engage you academically and culturally. Students have access to a course entitled How Plants Changed the World, as well as other courses in environmental sustainability such as Environmental Impact of Humans, Environmental Policy in Practice, Integrated Sustainability, and more.

This virtual Global Semester program gives you the opportunity to register for a minimum of one and a maximum of four online courses at Massey. Registering for four online courses means you are participating on this program in full-time status. You can also register for 1-3 online courses at Massey while also registering for courses at UK.
