Founded in 2005, the Shanghai University Folk Music Troupe is comprised of more than 40 students who major or excel in folk music. Pictured on the attached poster from left to right are soloists Ms. Huaqing Ren (Erhu player), Ms. Cong Sheng (pianist), Ms. Ye Xia (Pipa player), Ms. Min Yuan (Erhu player), Dr. Lin Shan (Conductor), and Dr. Chunyi Xu (Kung Fu Master).
In recent years, the Troupe has given a number of concerts, and has attended many national and international cultural exchange events at institutions such as Boğaziçi University in Turkey, University of Kentucky, University College Cork and Maynooth University in Ireland, and University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom. In May 2012, the Troupe received an invitation to perform at the 26th World University Music Festival and was voted The Most Popular Troupe.
The Shanghai University Folk Music Troupe will perform in the Recital Hall of the Singletary Center for the Arts on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at 7:00 pm. This is a general admission performance that is free and open to the public.
