Established in the spring of 2020, the Global Engagement Academy (GEA) offers free professional development for faculty and staff to build cross-cutting competencies in international education and engagement. Since the program’s inception, 166 UK faculty and staff have participated in the 58 sessions that have been offered so far. The spring 2022 GEA will help past participants build on the foundational knowledge of previous courses while welcoming new participants just getting started.

Education abroad can be most simply defined as an opportunity to earn academic credit in an international setting. Have you ever seen a virtual international healthcare experience that engages you with an underserved community and time in clinic? UK’s Shoulder to Shoulder Global (STSG), in collaboration with the community of Santo Domingo, Ecuador and an interprofessional UK faculty leadership team, offered its second virtual health brigade experience January 4-8, where students, faculty, staff and community members participated in a unique transformative, educational and cultural experience.
