UK students are learning to work effectively as in interprofessional teams to provide health services to individuals and communities in an international setting. The Interprofessional Teamwork in Global Health course is part of Shoulder to Shoulder Global's (STSG)Ecuador brigade program. STSG is a UK unit that engages multiple academic and community partners to improve the health and well-being of impoverished communities overseas.

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Ecuador on Saturday, April 16. The epicenter was in Manabi province, in the Ecuadorian coastline, where many cities and villages have been devastated. According to CNN, the quake has killed at least 413 people and more than 2,500 have been injured. Several countries and organizations have come together to support to the Ecuadorian people, including a group of Ecuadorian physicians who are completing their residency and fellowship training in the U.S., Canada and Spain. Among these physicians is pediatric neurology resident at UK HealthCare, Dr. Ana C. Albuja.

University of Kentucky is happy to share that we have admitted and offered a full-ride scholarship to Ojaswi Piya, one of the 61 talented students from Nepal whose scholarships at UT-Tyler were recently canceled. Three scholarship programs across UKY’s campus came together to make this possible. We are excited that Ojaswi has accepted our offer and will join the Wildcat family this fall!
