What is the HSK?

The HSK is a standardized international Chinese language proficiency test for assessing non-native Chinese speakers' competence in the Chinese language for the purposes of academic pursuit and Chinese language use in daily and working environments. It consists of a written test and an oral test. The written test is divided into six levels--HSK (level I), HSK (level II), HSK (level III), HSK (level IV), HSK (level V), and HSK (level VI). The HSK speaking test is divided into three levels-- Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Level. During the HSK speaking test, test takers’ speeches will be recorded. 

What level should I take?

You can understand and use simple words and phrases. You need to know 150+ Words and 150 (optional) Characters.

You can communicate simply and directly on daily topics you are familiar with. You need to know 300+ Words and 300 (optional) Characters.

You can conduct basic communication in daily life, study and work. You can manage most communication when traveling in China. You need to know 600+ Words and 600 Characters.

You can discuss a relatively wide range of topics in Chinese and can communicate with native Chinese speakers fluently in common situations. You need to know 1200+ Words and 1000 Characters.

You can read Chinese newspapers and magazines, watch Chinese films and TVs, and can write and deliver a full speech. You need to know 2500+ Words and 1500 Characters.

You can easily understand what you read and hear, and express yourself smoothly in written and oral Chinese. You need to know 5000+ Words and 2500 Characters.

How much does the HSK cost?

  • HSK Level 1 = $20
  • HSK Level 2 = $30
  • HSK Level 3 = $40
  • HSK Level 4 = $50
  • HSK Level 5 = $60
  • HSK Level 6 = $70
