Graduate Student Success
The Office of China Initiatives is committed to graduate student success. Our office is working with colleges at UK to recruit more students through 3+2, 3+1+1+x programs and more. At the same time, we are working to create and identify opportunities for our graduate students at UK to teach and intern in China. Please look through our offerings below:
Student Travel Grant
Funded through OCI, these grants provide UK students with financial support toward international and domestic travel for China-related conferences, research and study. Applicants must be full-time students at the University of Kentucky. Grants cannot be deferred, and recipients may only hold one active OCI grant at a time. Funds are unrestricted but must be used in accordance with standard University of Kentucky funding policies.
OCI is interested in funding UK students pursuing China-focused academic endeavors.
Grant Focus Area:
- OCI Graduate Student Research Travel Grant: $1,500 (limit per grant) x 10 to support UK graduate students for China-related research, including trips to conferences.
Note: A student can only be awarded one category of award each academic year.
China in My Lens
Each year, the University of Kentucky Office of China Initiatives invites UK students, visiting scholars, and UK faculty & staff to participate in the China in My Lens photography competition.
A review committee selects one first prize, one second prize, and one third prize winner from each group. Individuals submitting pieces to OCI are authorizing OCI and UK to make unlimited, unrestricted use of their photographs for promotional purposes.
Prizes by division are as follows:
- Faculty and Staff Group: First Prize: $800; Second Prize: $500; Third Prize: $300
- UK Student and Visiting Scholars Group: First Prize: $500; Second Prize: $300; Third Prize: $150
