Lashana Harney (pronounced luh-SHAY-nuh HARR-nee) is the Public Relations Coordinator at the University of Kentucky Office of China Initiatives. Lashana's Chinese name, given to her by her first Chinese 老师 (teacher) is 何珊娜 (Héshānnà). Lashana is Bluegrass born and raised, growing up in the small town of Paris, Kentucky.
Lashana is also a proud first-generation college student; she attended Western Kentucky University and graduated in 2017 with Highest Honors and a bachelor of arts in Public Relations with a minor in Chinese. Since graduating WKU, she has published and won numerous awards for her work in The Winchester Sun, College Heights Herald, Lexington Herald-Leader, the Louisville Courier-Journal, and more.
As the Public Relations Coordinator, Lashana develops OCI's comprehensive communications strategy to bring greater visibility to OCI programming at UK and in the Kentucky community. Lashana is often behind the scenes preparing promotional materials, managing OCI's social media accounts, updating OCI's website, taking photos at OCI's events, and more. She also oversees OCI's HSK and Chinese teacher Teaching certificate programs and equipment inventory.
