Professional Accomplishments

Yan Wang (王艳) is the Executive Assistant at the Office of China Initiatives. She is from China.

Yan received her bachelor’s degree in English, Master’s in Linguistics in China. She received her doctoral degree in Studies in Higher Education from the University of Kentucky focused on student success. Yan has worked at many places before joining the Office of China Initiatives. She worked as a lecturer at the China University of Geosciences (Beijing) before coming to the United States. At the University of Kentucky, she has taught various levels of Chinese language classes at the Chinese department and worked at many centers to support students, including International Student and Scholar Services and Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives. Yan also worked at the Office of Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness to evaluate program effectiveness.

In her current position, Yan is responsible for the director’s daily scheduling and coordinates programs with Chinese partner universities. She will also lead programs to promote student success and evaluate programs implemented in the office. In addition, she also helps with HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, Chinese proficiency test) and CTCSOL (Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages).
