LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 6, 2024) – Sue Roberts, Ph.D., associate provost for internationalization at the University of Kentucky, has been elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Commission on International Initiatives (CII). The election results were announced at the 2024 APLU Annual Meeting in November.

“I am honored to be elected to this commission that does so much important work,” Roberts said. “I look forward to collaborating with other leaders in international higher education to solve the key issues around international education today. This work is vital to increasing global learning opportunities available to students and to creating avenues for international research and collaboration for faculty.”

The CII engages campus leaders to integrate an international dimension into the learning, discovery and engagement missions of APLU member institutions. The CII fosters the development of globally competent students, internationally engaged faculty and institutions capable of addressing global challenges in an equitable and inclusive manner.

The CII works by identifying critical issues, gathering information and creating opportunities for members to discuss challenges and share knowledge with one another. The CII serves as an advisory body to APLU and is integrally involved with all APLU discussions about comprehensive internationalization.

“With all the events roiling the world right now, conversations around international higher education have become more important and more strategic,” Roberts said. “I’m delighted to have this opportunity to work with distinguished colleagues from across the U.S. in this space to enhance international education at UK and across the country.”
