Students are subject to local laws and the UK Code of Student Conduct for the duration of the program. Students who are of legal drinking age in their program’s host country may consume alcohol responsibly while abroad. Students are not permitted, under any circumstance, to use recreational drugs while abroad.
Misusing alcohol or drugs while on an Education Abroad program can have serious repercussions, up to and including dismissal from a program. Dismissal from a program for these reasons could result in major financial and academic implications, and include additional on-campus disciplinary actions once the student has returned to the U.S. Failure to adhere to host country laws concerning alcohol and drug use may also result in prosecution under local law. The University of Kentucky is unable to intervene in international legal proceedings on behalf of a student.
