Students who are of legal drinking age in their program’s host country may consume alcohol responsibly while abroad. Students are not permitted, under any circumstance, to use recreational drugs while abroad.

UK students participating on an education abroad program are acting as representatives of the University and the U.S. while they are on their program. Students are also subject to the UK Code of Student Conduct for the duration of your program.

Misusing alcohol or drugs while on an Education Abroad program can have serious repercussions beyond the risks discussed above, up to and including dismissal from a program. Dismissal from a program for these reasons could result in major financial and academic implications, and include additional on-campus disciplinary actions once you have returned to the U.S.

Failure to adhere to host country laws concerning alcohol and drug may also result in prosecution under local law. The University of Kentucky is unable to intervene in international legal proceedings on behalf of a student.
