To be eligible to participate in a UK Education Abroad (UK EA) program, you must meet the following baseline eligibility requirements. Please note, individual programs may have additional or higher standards.
Minimum GPA Requirement
- You must have an official UK GPA with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 to apply. Most programs require at least a 2.50 GPA or higher to apply. Your EA advisor can help you identify programs that align with your GPA.
Applying as a First- year students
- you are eligible to apply for education abroad after completing your first semester at UK and receiving a UK GPA. Because applications are typically due one semester in advance, the earliest a first-year student can go abroad is the summer after their first year.
Applying as a Transfer student
- Eligibility for transfer students and those entering with substantial AP or other transfer credit is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If you have transfer credit but no UK GPA yet, you should meet with your Education Abroad Advisor to determine the earliest term for which you are eligible to apply.
Academic Standing
- You are required to remain in good academic and disciplinary standing from the time of application through your program’s departure. If your standing changes, you may no longer be eligible to participate in your program.
Special Note for Faculty-Directed Embedded Programs
- If you are enrolled in a Faculty-Directed Embedded program, you must maintain satisfactory academic progress in the on-campus, education abroad-related course(s). Dropping or failing the course may make you ineligible for the travel component of the program.
