Overview

To participate in a UK Education Abroad program, students must meet the baseline eligibility requirements below. Individual programs may have additional or higher standards.

Minimum GPA Requirement

  • Students must have an official UK GPA with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 to apply. Most programs require at least a 2.50 GPA or higher to apply.
  • If a program has a higher GPA requirement, the student must meet that higher GPA in order to participate.

Applying as a First-Year Student

  • Students are eligible to apply for an education abroad program after completing their first semester at UK and receiving a UK GPA. Because applications are typically due one semester in advance, the earliest a first-year student can go abroad is the summer after their first year.

Applying as a Transfer Student

  • Eligibility for transfer students and those entering with substantial AP or other transfer credit is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Students with transfer credit but no UK GPA should meet with their Education Abroad Advisor to determine eligibility.

Academic Standing

  • Students are required to remain in good academic and disciplinary standing from the time of application through the program’s completion. If a student's standing changes, they may no longer be eligible to participate in the program. In this circumstance, the student will be withdrawn from the program and may not be reimbursed for any costs already paid by the student or on the student's behalf by UK.

Special Note for Faculty-Directed Embedded Programs

  • If a student is enrolled in a Faculty-Directed Embedded program, they must maintain satisfactory academic progress in the on-campus, education abroad-related course(s). Dropping or failing the course may make the student ineligible for the travel component of the program.

EAP 599 Enrollment

  • If the selected program requires EAP 599 enrollment, the student must be eligible for enrollment and stay enrolled in the course throughout the program term.
