Overview

UK Education Abroad is committed to supporting equitable access to international programs. While UK EA will coordinate with the student, the UK Disability Resource Center (DRC), and program partners to explore reasonable accommodations, UK EA cannot arrange or guarantee accommodations on behalf of students for all programs.

Eligibility

  • Requesting, researching, or requiring accommodations does not affect a student's eligibility to apply for a program. However, approval and implementation of accommodations depend on what is reasonable and available in the host country.

Student Responsibility

  • If a student currently receives accommodations at UK and wishes to request similar support abroad, the student is responsible for initiating the accommodation process and providing official documentation from DRC to responsible parties managing their program.

Program Limitations

  • UK EA cannot guarantee that accommodations provided at UK will be available abroad. The ability to arrange accommodations depends on the host institution, local laws, and available resources. UK EA’s role is limited to supporting communication between you, the DRC, and the program partner, and advocating for your academic and physical needs.
  • To determine if the requested accommodations can be supported in the program host country or institution, students must provide DRC approved documentation to the following contacts based on your program type:

    • Faculty-Directed Programming: UK EA Advisor and Program Director
    • Partner, Exchange, and Direct Programming: Your UK EA Advisor and Program Contacts

Variation in Support

  • Accommodations and accessibility standards vary worldwide. Services provided under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) may not be available or may differ significantly in other countries.

Failure to Complete Requirements

  • Students are responsible for meeting all deadlines and requirements related to their accommodation request. Failure to register with the DRC, provide appropriate documentation, or complete required steps with the program partner means accommodations will not be arranged.
