From Nigeria to Kentucky, doctoral grad pursues educational policy and evaluation career

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 20, 2023) — While working in his home country of Nigeria at the University of Ibadan, it became clear to Olumuyiwa “Moses” Desmennu that pursuing a Ph.D. would be essential for his professional advancement and personal fulfillment.    Last week, he celebrated completion of that goal as he walked across the University of Kentucky commencement stage to accept his Ph.D. in education sciences, but his path from Nigeria to Kentucky was a much longer journey. 

Refugee finds a 2nd home at UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 15, 2023)  In August 2021, as the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, many students in the country suddenly found themselves in limbo — unsure of whether or how to continue their education. As they searched for answers, and many fled their home country, the launch of the Kentucky Innovative Scholarship Pilot Project provided hope, and the University of Kentucky mobilized to provide a home away from home.

UK receives APLU International Impact Award for Global Engagement

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 15, 2023) — In recognition of its commitment to furthering internationalization on campus and fostering a more diverse campus community, The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) has named the University of Kentucky the 2023 winner of the APLU International Impact Award for Global Engagement. The award was accepted on behalf of the university by Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration Eric Monday, Ph.D., at the annual meeting of the APLU’s awards ceremony. 

International Studies Program to host symposium on conflict-induced displacement

UK Music faculty travel to Greece's Ionian University as part of new exchange

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 14, 2023) — From Oct. 16–20, 2023, eight faculty members from the University of Kentucky School of Music (UK SOM) traveled to Ionian University in Corfu, Greece, to participate in the first full exchange as part of a new bilateral relationship between UK and Ionian University.

Dr. Johnnye Lewis to Present 2023 Global Health Case Competition Keynote

Dr. Johnnye Lewis, PhD, will serve as the keynote presenter for the Global Health Case Competition. Her lecture is titled “Global Legacy of Environmental Injustice to Indigenous Peoples in the Wake of Weapons Development, Industry, and Technology.” The lecture will be on Friday, September 22 at 12:00pm EST in room 124 of the Lee Todd Building, UK College of Pharmacy.
