The University of Kentucky defines “education abroad” as any global program that provides academic credit, either through enrollment in a UK course or transfer credit from another institution. According to Administrative Regulation 4:9, all students who wish to earn academic credit for study abroad, whether through UK-endorsed programs or external ones, are required to apply through UK Education Abroad & Exchanges (UK EA) and receive approval prior to participation.
Failure to work with EA means you will not get your credits transferred. If you participate in a program as a UK student without notifying UK EA, you will be required to retroactively register your experience for the term you were abroad. This will include enrollment in and payment for EAP 599, along with payment of the UK EA Application and Administrative Fees. Failure to follow this procedure may delay or prevent the awarding of credit.
Programs Completed Before Enrolling at UK
- If you completed an education abroad program before becoming a UK student, the UK Transfer Center will evaluate and facilitate the transfer of eligible academic credit in accordance with university transfer credit policies.
